DarkLim — True-Peak Brick-Wall Limiter
A modern, transparent brick-wall limiter designed for mastering and loud loudness work. True-peak inter-sample detection, multiband release scaling, six character modes, and up to 8× oversampling — all the precision you need for the final stage of any mix or master.
Limiting engine:
- True-peak ISP detection — 8-tap Kaiser-windowed sinc upsampling catches inter-sample peaks that exceed digital ceiling between samples (the difference between “true 0 dBFS” and “sample 0 dBFS”)
- Multiband release — three-band LR4 (24 dB/oct Linkwitz-Riley) crossovers at 200 Hz and 2 kHz analyze each band independently, so bass and treble don’t pump each other
- Suppress Overshoot — two-stage protection prevents any ISP exceedance, ever
- Up to 8× oversampling (1× / 2× / 4× / 8×) — Kaiser FIR with O(1) per-sample sliding-maximum tracking
Six shape modes:
- Linear — purely transparent, mathematically precise
- Smooth — gentle, mastering-friendly curve (default)
- Aggressive — fast, tight release for loudness wars
- Punch — preserves transients, ideal for drums and rock masters
- Warm — analog-flavored release shaping
- Transparent — invisible limiting, mastering-grade
Controls:
- Gain (-24 to +40 dB input drive)
- Ceiling (-24 to 0 dB output ceiling)
- Output (-24 to +24 dB post-trim)
- Transient (0–100%) — transient preservation control
- Lookahead (0–10 ms, default 5 ms)
- Attack (continuous 0.01–20 ms, log-skewed)
- Release (continuous 10–1000 ms) with Auto Release (multiband program-dependent)
- Stereo Link (0–100%)
- True Peak on/off, DC Filter, Dither, Unity Gain match
Workflow:
- Factory presets for mastering, loudness, broadcast, transient preservation, and more
- Bypass with sample-aligned PDC compensation
